Khalid Abdalla’s Nowhere is “a triumph of modern theatre”
It has been a real privilege working with actor and activist Khalid Abdalla and director Omar Elerian on Fuel’s production of Nowhere.
When I interviewed Khalid, I asked him why this piece came out in the form of a play, when it could have taken any form — especially given his success in TV, film, and docs.
He told me that it had to be in a space of gathering - and that “the space of theatre is life at its most intense”.
The world premiere of this personal and political piece of new writing received rave reviews upon opening last week at Battersea Arts Centre.
★★★★ "Radical and urgent - an audacious solo show that feels like more than theatre" The Guardian
“Exquisitely beautiful, perfectly observed” The Stage
★★★★★ “A triumph of modern theatre, proving to be as immediate and vital as any piece of theatre can be in the 2020s” The Reviews Hub
★★★★★ “It’s a vulnerable, profoundly human piece that should be mandatory viewing for lawmakers and government officials far and wide” Broadway World
★★★★★ “The way the story is told is just as exceptional as the writing” All that Dazzles
Nowhere is now sold out at BAC, but you can still catch it when it tours to HOME in Manchester later this month.
